Why We Exist?
The Malaysian Philosophy Society exists because of the lack of philosophy departments and programmes in Malaysia.
Our vision is to make philosophical practical and accessible to all, through our events, workshops, content, podcast, social media, and more.
Our Methodologies
We practice Practical Philosophy in everything we do, and we define Practicality as:
- Relevance to everyday life and real-world issues.
- Utility, implementing philosophy to solve everyday problems through reflecting on what we ought to do.
- Causal efficacy, the ambition to causally affect the world through philosophy.
- Methodology, focusing on philosophical methods and skills.
- Our Audience is primarily non-philosophers.
This does not mean that we neglect Theoretical Philosophy, but rather, we integrate it as a vital foundation.

Our Departments
We have 7 departments at the Malaysian Philosophy Society — Content, Events, Networking and Partnerships, Community, Marketing & Productions, Talent, and Learning and Development — all involved in various interrelated initiatives aimed at promoting philosophical inquiry and engagement in Malaysia and beyond.
Our Mascot
Finally, our mascot is a humble and curious owl named Philmu (a blend of ‘Philosophy’ and ‘Ilmu’), who is always asking questions and challenging the status quo.
